Philosophy and Goals of Education in Nigeria continued
No 8 continued.In order to fully realize the goals of Education in Nigeria and gain from its contribution to the national economy, Gover
nment shall take necessary measures to ensure that:
5.special provisions and incentives shall be made for the study of the sciences at each level of the education system;
6. continuing education shall be part and parcel of the education system; and
7. every child shall be taught in the mother tongue or language of the immediate communityy for the first four years of basic education, In addition, it is expected that every child shall learn one Nigeria language.
The quality of instruction at all levels of education shall be oriented towards inculcating the following values:
a.Respect for the worth and dignity ofthe individual;
b. Faith in man's ability to make rational decisions;
c. Moral and spiritual principles in inter-personal and human relations;
d.Shared responsibility for the common good of society;
e.Promotion of the physical,emotional and psychological development of all children; and
f'Acquisition of functional skill and competencies necessary for self-reliance.
BASIC EDUCATION
Basic education is the education given to children aged between 10-15 years . It encompasses the Early Child Education (0-4) and 10 years of formal schooling. Early Child Education however is segmentedinto ages 0-4 years, situated in daycare or creches, fully in the hands of the private sector

Nigeria philosophy of Education continued
D iii.The goals of education in Nigeria are the provision of equal access to qualitative educational opportunities for all citizens at all levels of education, within and outside the formal school system;
iv. inculcation of national consciousness, values and national unity; and
v. development of appropriate skills, mental, physical and social abilities and competencies to empower the individual to live in and contribute positively to the society.
E. The specific goals of education in Nigeria are to :
1. Ensure and sustain unfettered access and equity to education for the total development of the indivivdual;
2.ensure the quality of education delivery at all levels;
3. promote functional education for skill acquisition, job creation and poverty reduction;
4. ensure periodic review, effectiveness and relevance of the curriculum at all levels to meet the needs of the society and theworld of work.
5.collaborate with development partners, the private sector, non-Governmental Organizations and local communities to support and fund education; and
6. promote information and communication technology capability at all levels.
E. In order to fully realize the goals of education in Nigeria and gain from its contribution to the national economy, Government shall take necessary measures to ensure that :
1.Educational activities shall be learner centred for maximum self-development and self-fulfilment;
2. teaching shall be practical, activity-centred, experiential and IT supported;
3.education shall be related to overall community needs;
4.all tiers of government the establishment and support of Reading Clubs in schools, Community Libraries and other such resources that will enhance effective learning. To be continued
Nigeria Philosophy of Education
Nigeria's philosophy of Education is based on the following set of beliefs:
a.Education is an instrument for national development and social change.
b.Education is vital for the promotion of a progressive and united Nigeria.
c.Education maximises the creative potentials and skills of the individual for self-fulfilment and general development of the society.
d.Education is compulsory and a right of every Nigerian irrespective of gender, social status, religion,ethnic background and any peculiar individual challenges; and
e.Education is to be qualitative, comprehensive, functional and relevant to the needs of the society.
B. This philosophy of Nigeria education is based on the development of the individual into a sound and effective citizen and the provision of equal opportunities for all citizens of the nation at the basic, secondary and tertiary levels both inside and outside the formal school system.
C.The five main national goals of Nigeria as stated in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria are the building of
1.a free and democratic society;
2.a just and egalitarian society;
3.a united, strong and self-reliant nation;
4.a great and dynamic economy and
5. a land full of bright opportunities for all citizens.
D.The goals of education in Nigeria are the:
i. Development of the individual into a morally sound,patriotic and effective citizen;
Total integration of the individual into the immediate community, the Nigerian society and the world;

Sustainable Development Goals Continued
We stated that there are 17 sustainable development goals and today we are continuing with the rest of the goals from goal 12. Goal 12 states that it is combating climate change .Here we talk of global warming. This the idea of climate change. if the forests are are not preserved the effect of global warming is going to be devastating which is not goof for any country's progress. If the streams dry up as a result of the change it is going to affect the country' fresh water supply which in turn affects the well being of the people. So each country will endeavour to preserve their trees to protect their fresh water streams.
This takes us to goal 13 which is good use of water resources. Water id very important for the production of electricity. For instance the use of dynamos to generate electricity becomes very important here. The country will harness its water resources to generate power . The economic effect of such power generation cannot be overstressed since the nation will be able to power her industries. And when the industries are empowered jobs are created and thus reducing the country's unemployment rate. Such reduction is of course an index of development. A country with many of her youths unemployed cannot be said to be highly developed.
Goal 14 is good use of land and forests. Here the country has to create Forest Reserves and maintain them for effctive development of their forests. The resources we get from forests include both wood and timber. More important is the timber which the country can harness for both wood and export. When the timber is exported the country gains foreign exchange to boost their foreign earnings.
Another one is goal 15 which is promoting peace, justice and strong institutions.
And finally strengthening partnerships for the achievement of the goals.

The Foot of Traditional Prosody
Poetry is the expression of deepest emotion. A poetic performance is a combination of what si said and how it is said. There are different types of foot that make up different types of metre. A group of stressed and unstressed syllable forms a foot and a combination of foot forms a metre. The foot of traditional prosody begins with stressed or unstressed syllable.
Types of foot in English in English verse. There are different types of foot in English verse which also makes up the different types of metre in English verse. The first one is iambic foot. In iambic foot an unstressed syllable is followed by one stressed. The next one is anapaest foot. In anapaest foot two unstressed syllables are followed by one stressd. For example, /xx-/. The third foot is trochee . Here one stressed syllable is followed by one unstressed syllable.The fourth foot is dactyl. Here one stressed syllable is followed by two stressed syllables
A foot is a unit of stressed and unstressed syllables in a line of poetry.A combination of feet makes a metre. From this analysis we can explain the rising rhythm and falling rhythm. The rising rhythm is made up of both iambs and anapaests while the falling rhythm is made up of trochee and dactyl metres. This takes to another level of this discussion- metre. What is metre. Metre is a combination of the diferent types of feet. There are therefore four different types of metre.First is iambic pentamtre which is made up five iambic feet. Then there is the anapaest metre made up of anapaest feet in a line of poetry. The third type of metre is trochee metre. This is where a line of poetry or part thereof is made up of trochee feet. And finally there is the dactyl metre. this is made up dactyl feet.
This takes to another angle of our discussion which is rhythm. What is rhythm in poetry. Rhythm in poetry means the constant beat of sounds. These beats may be rising or falling. You can have falling tune or rising tunes.When the beat is rising it is either iambic or anapaest. But when the beat is falling it is either trochee or dactyl.
The subject of poetry is interesting because it is incorporated in everyday life. Poetry it is said is the expression of deepest emotion. In the famous Preface to the Lyrical Ballads William Wordsworth describes poetry as emotion recoollected in tranquility. This is supported by the fact that if you read Tintern Abbey, you will see that the lines composed by the banks of the Wye river that the author is quiet there by the banks of the river. He hears the sound of the river and composes his poem. Again in 'Tradition and individual Talent' T S Eliot talks excellency in poetry as depending on the intensity of the fusion. To achieve such intensity ,cohesion and fusion of thought and feeling one mustn be in a serene atmosphere. Let explain a bit here. What makes a good poetry is the fusion of thought and feeling which must appeal the reading audience. And it also depends on the intensity of the fusion to make the impact. And also I say that the reader must also apply poetic faith. What is poetic faith? It is the willing suspension of disbelief. You have to agree to makeshift situations created in the poem to be able to enjoy it. So we conclude by saying that in reality poetry is emotion recollected in tranquility. Also poetry at another advanced level is defined as a spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings. For instance if a snake suddenly enters your house you are bound to shout "Oh!' to attract attention. Such shouting you have is a kind of spontaneous overflow of powerful feeling and that is poetry. In summary poetry should be studied for its enjoyment and knowledge and in my next blog I shall give you other literary points useful for students of literature around the world. Salvation only through Christ
From the dawn of history man has been searching to be in tune with his maker , consciously or unconsciously. Even in the universities in the so called Department of Philosophies where people make argument about the existence of God they end up proving the atheists wrong. This emanates from the fact that they did not invent the word God.
It is inert in man to seek for his maker since man did not come here by chance.It is man's search for his maker that has led him into different religions.Then God in his infinite mercies sent his son Jesus Christ to save the world from sin.
The problem of the human race from the dawn of his has been the sin problem.So the culmination of God's mercy for man is giving of his son Jesus Christ to save the world from their sins. The reader should refer to the gospel of John chapter 3 verse 16, here it states 'For God so loved the world that he gave his own begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life'. So what is central in human life is to repent of one's sins and believe in the son of God. Life is the first thing in in this world. This is why you will first of all secure you soul and life in Christ so that you will be safe from the machinations of the devil, the enemy of mankind.
Just at a given point in time after the deluge mankind converged again at Shinar (Babylon) to rebel against God. We that what caused the deluge (Noah's flood) is the sin of man.Refer to Genesis chapter 6 and you will see God's judgement on the first world because of corruption(sin). Immediately after that flood mankind converged at Shinar to rebel against God again. They have failed to learn any lesson from the first judgement. There at Shinar they wanted to build a tower to reach to heaven. This was why the LORD came down and brought confusion in their language. That was the beginning of the many languages we have today.Don't this issue of language teach you how wonderful God is. So if you have not received Christ into your heart as your personal Lord and Saviour, you should kneel down now and pray this prayer to receive Christ into your heart: Lord Jesus, come into my heart to wash away my sins, for I repent of my sins today.Holy Father I pray in Jesus name, amen. After praying believe that Jesus has entered your heart and it will be done for you, see Revelation 3 verse 20.

United Nations Declaration of Rights of Man
On December 10 1948 there was the United Nations Declaration of the Fundamental Human Rights. This is known as the United Nations Declaration of the Universal Human Rights clearly spelt out in its Article 30. There is the right to life.This means that no one has right to take human life through extra judicial killing of any sort whatsoever.
Then there is the right to private life or right to privacy. This means that people,s privacy will not be intruded upon or violated. Then the right to freedom of conscience or religion. No one will be forced to follow any religion or creed. Adherents of various religions should seek for members through persuasion and not through force of arms. You can take a horse to the water but you cannot force it to drink.
This shows the futility of trying to force some body to believe in what you believe through the use of arms.Then the right to freedom of association. Individuals are free to form associations or groups and to join any group or party they like. There is also the right to own property. Every person has the right to acquire legally and maintain it as his own. There is the right to family life. People have right to private and public life. Then the right to education. Every child has the right to be educated.This means that parents are under obligation to train their children in schools. Failure in this aspect on the part of the parents may even lead to litigation. Such parents may be arraigned to answer for such lapses.
Then the right to vote and be voted for.Every individual has the right to seek elective offices up to becoming the president of his country. There is the right to freedom of movement.People have the right to move about freely.But this however, does not include loitering.Of course there is a law against loitering and a loiterer can be prosecuted when spotted.
